Which Tooth Replacement Works For You?

If you went to ice cream parlor and it only offered one flavor of ice cream, you would be disappointed.

If you went to an electronics store, and they only had one kind of stereo, you would probably go somewhere else before making your purchase.

If you need to replace your missing teeth, we believe you should have options with that decision, too.

This is why North Shore Smile Surgery offers you different kinds of dental implants as well as the All-on-4 procedure through Refresh Smile.

If you are considering dental implants or replacing your dentures with implant-supported dentures, please take some time to see what we have to offer at our dentist office in Buffalo Grove, IL.

Losing More Than Your Teeth

Losing your teeth can be a traumatic experience.

Our teeth are what make our smiles what they are. Without teeth, you may not feel like smiling, and if you do, it can leave you feeling embarrassed.

Losing your teeth affects your quality of life in other ways, too.

Eating just isn’t the same when you can’t bite into and chew your food. You may worry that your diet will be limited to soups, mashed potatoes, eggs, and other soft and mushy foods.

Dentures will help, but probably not as much as you might like.

A good set of dentures will look like natural teeth when you smile or speak. This can help you feel more comfortable in social and professional situations.

However, dentures only restore a fraction of your bite force. This means there are still certain foods that you may not be able to eat (corn on the cob, for example) and other foods you can eat, but with more difficulty than before (think steak).

Regain Your Bite

Dental implants can make your dentures even more effective.

Where dentures replace the crowns of your lost teeth, implants replace the roots. If you decide that you want dental implants, here are the options you will be able to consider at our office.

  • Traditional Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium cylinders that we place directly in your jaw. By placing a series of implants, we can support a full set of dentures on your upper jaw, lower jaw, or both.

People can’t regrow their lost teeth, but dental implants can help you restore the appearance of your smile and nearly all of your original chewing ability.

Implant-supported or implant-retained dentures will be more secure than traditional dentures. With implants, you won’t have to worry about your dentures coming loose in the middle of one of your funny stories or in the middle of a meal.

You will be able to eat with confidence no matter what is on your plate.

  • Bone Graft Then Implants

Dental implants can help millions of people restore the function of a full mouth of teeth. However, there is one thing you need before your implants can be placed.

You must have sufficient bone density to hold the implants in place. If you have lost too much bone density, a bone graft is one option to consider.

During a bone graft, we remove a section of bone and transplant it where it is needed in your mouth. As you heal, the bone will fuse together to provide a more stable base for your implants.

  • Mini implants

Some people don’t like the idea of performing a bone graft, then placing their implants, then getting dentures.

For some patients, mini implants (which have a small diameter than traditional implants) may provide an alternative. Mini implants can be used to do many of the same things as traditional implants, including supporting a set of dentures.

  • All-on-4

If you are looking for faster results, then we encourage you to learn more about Refresh Smile. This is our procedure to provide All-on-4 dental implants.

With this procedure, we can remove any teeth that need to be extracted, place your dental implants, and place a set of dentures in a single day.

As the name suggests, this procedure uses just four implants to provide many of the same benefits that you could experience with traditional implant placement.

Make The Right Choice For You

Different people respond differently to losing their teeth. It’s reasonable to think that people will take different approaches to teeth replacement as well.

If you live in or near Buffalo Grove, IL, you should visit a dentist who offers a variety of tooth replacement options. That way you can find the one that will work best for you.
